Shirley Lynes Obituary

Shirley Case Lynes Charleston - Shirley Mae Case Lynes, 79, of Charleston, the widow of Bob Lynes who was an agent for State Farm Insurance Company, died peacefully Thursday morning in a Goose Creek care facility. She was a lifelong homemaker and mother of eight. Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 8720 Antler Drive, N. Charleston. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park, directed by DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the CHURCH from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Mrs. Lynes was born July 5, 1936 on Sullivan's Island, SC, a daughter of George Dewey Case and Sallie Carrie Fields Case. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she played the piano and organ for more than 50 years for church services and the choir, and was a former president of the Relief Society, the woman's auxiliary service group. Mrs. Lynes served an 18-month mission trip to Yekaterinburg, Russia, where she taught English with a Southern accent. She was very active in her church, loved reading and crocheting, and family history. She loved to sing and knew the words to every song. She was predeceased by her husband, Bobby Jack Lynes, Sr.; two brothers, George Case, Jr. and Gilbert Case; and two grandchildren, Steven and Stephanie Lynes. Surviving are three daughters, Melinda Griffin and her husband Rick of Rock Hill, Valerie Wilson and her husband Roy of North Charleston, and Julie Dunlap and her husband Vernon of Canton, GA; five sons, Jack Lynes and his wife Mary Ann of Aiken, David Lynes and his wife Margie of Waleska, GA, Michael Lynes and his wife Julie of Glenwood, Iowa, Alan Lynes and his wife Lisa of Charleston, and Eric Lynes of Tooele, UT; one sister, Sally Gregg of Hanahan; forty-six grandchildren and forty-five great-grandchildren.
