Shirley Beach Obituary

Shirley Beach RUFFIN, SC - Mrs. Shirley Katherine Beach, 70, of Bells Highway, Ruffin, entered into eternal rest Thursday, March 14, 2013, under the care of Heartland Hospice at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held 10 am, Saturday, March 16, 2013 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. Interment will follow at 12:30 pm in St. Luke's United Methodist Churchyard, Highway 170 near Bluffton. Mrs. Beach was born February 26, 1943, a native of Patterson, New Jersey and was a daughter of the late William Louis and the late Annette Graves Turlington. After the family moved to Walterboro nearly 50 years ago, she founded The Petal Palace Florist on Jefferies Highway in Walterboro before moving it to its current location on the Bells Highway. She then founded Floral Designs by Shirley and operated that business until her retirement in 2012. Her love of flowers and gardening was shown through her dedication to her business, and will be forever remembered for her signature, which with care she placed in every arrangement she designed, a red rose. She loved riding horses and taking care of her animals, but most of all, she was devoted to her family, who was the highlight of her life. Shirley and Lonnie were loved by many, and this was demonstrated by the numerous ones who attended the many cookouts at their home which was always a wonderful occasion for those that attended. People's love for Shirley was also very evident in the concern and care shown to her and her family since the diagnosis of her illness, and that love of a community will forever be a comfort to her family and greatly appreciated. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Surviving are: her husband, who was the light of her life for 51 years, Mr. Lonnie M. Beach, Sr. of Ruffin; three children, Lonnie M. Beach, Jr. and his wife Donna of Walterboro, Karen Beach Waters of Walterboro, and Shirley Beach Jarriel and her husband W. David of Collins, Georgia; three sisters, Billie Ann Guzman of Nashville, Tennessee, Barbara Davis of Collins, Georgia, and Agnes Anderson of Collins, Georgia. There are five grandchildren, Tres Waters, Chelci Beach, Dixie Jarriel, Rachel Jarriel, and Emily Jarriel; as well as several nieces and nephews that also survive. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Laverne Reynolds and Katherine Elizabeth Louis; and her stepfather, whom she considered her father, Roy Howell "Bo" Jacobs. For those that so desire, memorial messages and thoughts of condolence, as well as memorable recollections of Shirley may be shared with the Beach family at the online guestbook, www.briceherndonfuneralhome.com. Family and friends are invited to call from 6 o'clock until 9 o'clock this Friday evening at THE BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOMES, WALTERBORO CHAPEL, 1193 Bells Highway, Walterboro, 843.538.5408. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston
