Sharon Thorn Obituary

Sharon Louise

Cathey Thorn

LAKE CHARLES, LA - Momma was born in Bossier City, Louisiana to Mayor James L. and Dorothy Cathey. Momma met Daddy, Bobby Thorn the love of her life for 42 years and together they began raising their family in Bossier City. After much hard work, she and daddy cleared land and built a home by themselves in Benton, Louisiana were Momma remained much of her life. As Momma raised their girls, she spent the next 25years driving a school bus.

After seeing her children grow, Momma continued to find new challenges in her life, and enrolled in college. After graduating with a 4.0 she received a bachelors degree from Louisiana State University at Shreveport in elementary education, Momma continued her education and received her Masters degree in social work from Louisiana Tech at Barksdale. Momma went on to teach elementary school before moving to Lake Charles, Louisiana where Momma began working as an Investigator for the Department of children and family services.

Momma was saved and prayed in good times, and in bad.

Because Momma came from a political and military family and was a devout republican, she participated in numerous political campaigns in the Bossier Parish area, as well as being a staunch supporter of our United States Military.

Momma was everything that the word "Momma" embodies.

She had a beautiful smile, a hilarious sense of humor; she kissed our hurts, baked us cherry pies and cooked supper every night. When she finished whipping us, she was quick to remind us, that it hurt her, more than it hurt us. She always expected the very best from herself, as well as from us. She was a perfectionist and her famous quote was "do it right or don't bother".

Sometimes there just aren't enough words to explain how truly special someone is.

Left here to figure out how to go on without her are her children and grandchildren, Ammiee Thorn Morgan and her daughter Mallory Morgan of Bossier , Jenny Thorn Prejean and her son Taylor Elliott of Lafayette, Elizabeth Thorn Zaunbrecher husband Martin Zaunbrecher and their three children, Alex, Wyatt and Zachary of Lake Charles, Momma loved her dogs. Lucky, Missy and Abby as she told everyone she met about them.

Momma's desire to care and nurture drove her to consider the dogs her babies.

My Momma died of lung cancer. She smoked for a total of forty years. She allowed this cancer in and it did what it does best, it killed.

Prior to this illness my Momma had no health problems at all. This cancer robbed my Momma of her beautiful independent mind. My momma was a creative thinker, a person who laughed at the word "can't".

In lieu of flowers or donations find one habit that is detrimental to your health and quit it. Quit it for yourself. Your family will be grateful to have your life end due to natural causes.

Momma has been reunited with her love, Bobby and her Daddy, James, her favorite Aunt, Dora as well as her beloved grandmother, Chloe.

This is the end of Mommas story, but the memories, good and bad will carry on to every generation after her. When you are faced with the fact your Momma will be gone soon, every kind word spoken to her means something. I'm forever grateful to Oncology nurse Melissa Leonard's for letting me bother you "one more time", Mr.? and his wife Mrs. Emily Fontenot, random strangers who showed compassion towards Momma and me. Oncologists Dr. Michael Broussard and Dr. Michael Bergeron, the oncology nursing and aide staff at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Dr. John Maze and his staff at Lake Charles Memorial. Our most special thanks to Dr. Ronald Kober for so quickly getting my mommas port installed, this saved her countless "pokes" and reduced her stress greatly, you are a remarkable man, Dr. Carl Nabours for being there from the beginning and staying until the end and hospice nurse Leah Marcantel all here in Lake Charles. Dr. Gerardo San Pedro and Dr. Sara Wheat and Lauren, Moms favorite nurse, all at Willis Knighton Hospital in Bossier City. Y'all truly cared for my momma like she was yours. Your acts of kindness meant something to her and us. You are making a difference in people's lives.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM Friday, April 12, 2013 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA.

The obituary written to honor your mother was one of the most tender, loving ones I ever read. The love of your mother to her children is apparent. Her memory lives on in her family and in the countless people whose lives she touched. God bless and keep you at this time and in the days to come.

Sharon and I went to LSUS together. We became good friends and spent time studying and visiting. I lost touch with her several years later, but thought of her often. She often spoke of her daughters and grandchildren with love and concern. I know you all will miss her. May the Lord comfort you all in the loss of your mother.
