The family will gather with friends in the church's Haywood Duke room following the services. Dr. Dixon, the son and grandson of Methodist ministers, was born in Rome, Georgia on April 10, 1939. Dear Dixon family, I was very saddened to learn of your loss. I know Dr. Dixon made outstanding contributions as a physician, but my recollections are of a more personal nature. I remember Sewell when he was in college coming to Florida to visit my family. (He was my mom, Sarah Glover Osgood's, cousin.) I was a giddy kid who, I am sure, annoyed him! I also remember visiting him, Aunt Lavonia and Uncle Sewell Sr. in Atlanta. It's funny what sticks in my memory - Sewell had an extensive collection of model airplanes he had painstakingly put together and hung from the ceiling in his bedroom. Aunt Lavonia was a sweet woman and I always enjoyed our visits. Fast forward thirty years and I was working for the American Red Cross in High Point, NC. Sewell kindly invited me to lunch one day at the Country Club. We had a lovely time catching up. I know my mom and dad thought the world of him and mom so appreciated that you attended Dad's funeral. May your faith and family lift you up during this difficult time. Sincerely, Barbara Osgood-Cox on behalf of the Osgood family

I will certainly be missing one of the greatest men I had the chance to know. He was like another father figure to me and I cannot even start to explain how much knowledge this man shared with me over the last decade. He was a mentor, my go to guy for any medical advice in a hurry and most of all my friend. I loved every time my phone would ring and he had questions or favors for me, since I became his go to guy as well. I only wish that our paths had crossed earlier in life. I will not stop telling people about you old friend.
Love ya,
Jeremy Cull

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I learned of Sewell Dixon's death. It was an honor to have known him for over 25 years, both personally and professionally.

Sewell Dixon was a brilliant physician. Skilled in his specialty of cardiovascular surgery, he was dedicated to the delivery of the highest quality of surgical care and medicine in Greensboro. The community was indeed fortunate to have a man of his capabilities for so many years.

A man of tremendous intellect and vision, there was a side to Sewell that few saw or appreciated, except in moments of great despair involving themselves or their families. This was a side of tender compassion and understanding, a side that urged continuing strength in the face of daunting odds, a side that always fought the good fight to the very end.

We are much the less for the loss of the great men of medicine like Sewell Hinton Dixon, Jr., M.D.

I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to Bettie, Woods, and Kilby on this sad occasion. Sewell loved each of you beyond all measure.

My prayers are with your family. I was an operating room nurse for 30 years and began my career on the Open Heart Team with Moses Cone Hospital. I worked many long hours with Dr. Dixon and learned much from him. I watched him perform surgery on the most difficult of cases and even when the patients were not expected to do well, he would pull them through. The surgical skills I learned from him helped make me a better nurse. Many patients had their lives extended through God's grace and the skill God gave Dr. Dixon! Sincerely, Jeanie H. Lewis RNFA
