Scovill Currin Obituary

Scovill W. Currin DANIEL ISLAND, SC - Scovill Currin passed away suddenly, surrounded in the end by his loving family, on November 30, 2013. Scovill was born on July 16, 1947 in Durham, NC. Retired and living on Daniel Island, SC since 2000, Scovill and his family were long-term residents of Orangeburg, SC. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Scovill cherished time with his family and friends. Nothing gave him more joy than seeing his grandchildren burst through the door and their familiar greeting of "Pop!!" Tessa (6) and Luke (3) gave him profound happiness, and he welcomed his third grandchild, Wyatt, just 8 weeks ago with great pride. He spent 43 laughter-filled years with the love of his life, Deborah. Blind dates do sometimes work out. Scovill attended North Carolina State University and began his career with Lowes Building Supply in 1969, eventually becoming a long-term manager of the store in Orangeburg. He ended his career at Home Builders Supply, greatly enjoying being "one of the boys" on the sales floor. Scovill will be remembered by many for his sharp wit, fantastic sense of humor, and overwhelming desire to lend a helping hand. On Daniel Island, he quickly became the neighborhood storyteller, handy man, and surrogate grandfather. And the fish of Charleston can now rest more easy. Most importantly, he taught those around him how to live and love. Through him, we learned how to be a better spouse, parent, and friend. He brought a contagious, boyish excitement and wonder to life. Friends and family knew him as "Big," a fitting symbol of his larger-than-life spirit, generosity, and love of life and fun. Scovill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Deborah Lancaster Currin; son, Scovill W. Currin, Jr. and wife Lisa; daughter, Margaret Ann Grasso and husband Steven; two brothers, Johnny Currin and wife Pam and Roy Currin; sister, Louise Main and husband Dave; three grandchildren, Tessa Currin, Luke Currin and Wyatt Grasso; brother-in-law, Doug Lancaster and wife Ann; and two sisters-in-law, Tricia Lassiter and June Lancaster. The family will hold a memorial service on Wednesday, December 4, 11:00 AM, at Providence Baptist Church (294 Seven Farms Drive, Daniel Island SC) with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be made in Scovill's name to Providence Baptist Church. Debbie, Scovill, and Margaret Ann, We will all truly miss Big! He will always be remembered on DI and in Providence Baptist Church. Bob always enjoyed talking to him about college football and fishing. When Mason heard he talked about when he, Bob and Big went fishing. He will always remember that. Of course I just loved when he told me about dropping off something at our house. The garage door was open so Scovill thought he would just take it into the garage. Little did he know that our dog was in the garage (we have a wireless fence). She chased him right out of the garage. Of course he said he did not blame the dog one bit because he shouldn't have been in our garage. He just laughed and laughed....We will miss him! OF course we are here if you need anything. The DI/Providence Family.

Debbie and family, I am truly saddened by this news. May the memories you have and the love and support of your family and friends see you through this difficult time. I still remember our 1st Thanksgiving on DI, and how welcome I felt by you and Scoville that day (only the 2nd time we met) and everytime I was down and got a chance to see you both. Will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Debbie...we were so shocked to hear of Scovill's passing., we remember so vividly his persona, warm, gentle man who loved his family to the fullest., we remember a Thanksgiving when we had our first deep fried Turkey, Scovill's doing the cooking in the driveway., it was a special time in our lives, being the first year to South Carolina, and meeting all of you., take comfort in knowing he is with The Lord, and we will keep him in our prayers.

Debbie I am so sorry to hear about Scovill's passing and I know there aren't any perfect words to say but he will be missed by all who knew him. I have great memories of the years I worked with and for him. He surely helped a lost newbe at Lowes especially since we had inventory the first week I went to work with him. Will be praying for peace for your family and that the lives he touched will always remember Scoville. Rollie

Dear Debbie and family, we are so sorry. When we heard the news the first thing we thought of was Big's wonderful boyish grin and easy charm and how much we will miss that about him.
