My heart always felt lighter after being with Sarah in the Preservation Shop.

Sarah graciously took me under her wing at the Preservation Society. She was a kind and patient teacher. Eventually I was running the shop on my own on Saturdays. And she was always just a phone call away when I needed help. Your mom told me many of your childhood stories and had me laughing all
the time. She told me about her grandchildren and through her stories I could almost watch them grow.
Sarah and I spent most of our extra money at the Society buying up books, especially children's books,
and toys and dolls. I think we bought every pop-up book that came into the store. I loved to hear her
speak Gullah with customers or with Henrietta, who made our sweet-grass baskets. And then there were
the book signing evenings which were the definition of chaos. Your mom stayed calm and composed
through it all, with her smile and enthusiasm making each customer feel special.
I went through your dad's illness with her when she let me in. I think I helped her best when I gave her
time to be with him. We went through the best and worst of times at the Society and weathered them all.
I know I was not an important person in her life but she was in mine. I will always love her and will keep
her in my heart.

Mrs. Jenkins' son, Walter and I served in the Air Force Reserves together. I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Jenkins upon returning home from a deployment. I never really got to know her but felt like I already knew her because Walter spoke quite fondly of her and often. I so enjoyed hearing about his mother and other members of his family. God Bless you, Mrs. Jenkins and hope we can one day meet again.

Sarah was a childhood friend from Yonges Island - we took dancing together with Mrs. Garrity and were in the St. Paul's band together with my bubba Tolly Taylor and Bobby Jenkins (I went to Brick House and my mom was the "no E" Eloise/Eloiese) and in the Plantation Bridge Club with Bobby's mom. The Jenkins boys (Ned, Evans, and Bobby) came to play in our treehouse often. Sarah and I were again close with her at Preservation Society and selling my little books. I lived on Queen and saw her most days. I've missed her in the last few years and think of her often - with lots of love. Great memories of Bobby and Sarah.
