Sarah Hutcheson CHARLESTON - Sarah Lynch Hutcheson, 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Born on August 8, 1937, in Port Glasgow, Scotland, was a daughter of the late Matthew Henry and Ellen Mary (Miller) Henry. First and foremost, Sarah was a beautiful wee soul. She loved nature and would hug a tree from time to time. There was a couple in our neighborhood of Fort Johnson Estates that had an orange tree, and she loved that they would let her pick oranges from the tree. She would come home as though she had found a treasure. She took joy in the simple things of life. She loved writing letters and receiving them. We would tease her and say that she was an 18th century gal. Walking around our neighborhood was one of her joys. She enjoyed seeing the kids and going home and getting candies for them. She enjoyed all her talks with other walkers and neighbors and those who were her friends. An avid reader, she read every Agatha Christie Novel written and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's, Sherlock Holmes. Also, very diligent about her Watchtowers. She looked forward to going to the Kingdom Hall every Sunday and she was happy to talk the praises of Jehovah. One of her favorite writings was a poem by Lyle C. Rollings, III in 2007, "The Greatest Man in History." "Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master. Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher. Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer. He had no army, yet kings feared Him. He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world. He did not live in a castle, yet they called Him Lord. He ruled no nations, yet they called Him King, committed no crime, yet they crucified Him. He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today. I feel honored to serve such a leader who loves us!" Every night she would put toast out for a baby raccoon. She said all creatures were precious on land, air, and sea. When her husband was in the Merchant Marines as a Senior Electrical officer aboard oil tankers and weather ships, Sarah was able to travel with him for three months out of the year. Officer Robert took pride in being able to treat his wife as a Lady and lavish the good life on her. She migrated to America with her husband, Bobby, and daughter, Heather, in 1965. A wonderful homemaker, she took pride in her home and her family. Her family was very important to her sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. She kept in touch with them her entire life and loved when they would come to visit. She kept her frugal beginnings as a WW II child having survived the blitz. Throughout her life she always loved a good bargain. With a little coaxing, she enjoyed trips that she and her husband went on and enjoyed being able to visit her family wherever they lived. Sarah lived a beautiful life and was loved by family and friends. Anyone that met her found her to be sweet and delightful. This delightful woman will be missed greatly. We celebrate her life with joy and love and are only too thankful that we got to be a part of it. Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, Matthew, and Ellen Mary Henry; brothers, Frank Gillan and Robert Henry; sisters, Gladys Henry, Nan Henry and Ellen Prytz. Sarah is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert Hutcheson; daughter, Heather Hutcheson; sisters, Ruth Johnson and Margaret Barnes; sister-in-law, Elsie Burnside; nieces, Andrea Ishie (Love), Sandra Brown (Chris), and Phyllis Allen; nephew, Joseph Hutcheson (Lisa); great-nieces, Avery Ishie and Ella Grace Ishie; and numerous other nieces and nephews and grand-dog Pebbles.
