Sarah McDougall Crolley W. COLUMBIA, SC - Mrs. Sarah McDougall Crolley, 83, beloved mother and grandmother, entered the loving arms of her precious Lord on Monday, November 22, 2010, at the Rosalie Bomar Special Care Center at Still Hopes in West Columbia. Born July 23, 1927, in Summerville, SC, she was a daughter of the late William Marion McDougall and the late Sarah Bertie Wells McDougall. She graduated from Summerville High School and Roper School of Nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina. She also attended Duke University for post-graduate study before returning to her beloved Summerville to help care for her father. She was the nurse for Dr. Howard Snyder for a number of years. In 1951 she married the love of her life, Donald Leander Crolley, and they began a journey that lasted for 44 years and took them from Summerville to Clover, Great Falls, Union, Lancaster, and Sumter, as she faithfully supported his career as a school superintendent. In addition to her nursing career, Sarah taught in a church preschool program and was a special needs high school teacher. Upon retirement in Lancaster, Sarah remained active in her church, First Presbyterian, serving as an elder, circle chairman, and on various committees. She also ministered to those in nursing homes and shut-ins, always sharing her beautiful smile and words of encouragement. In 2009, Sarah moved to Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community in West Columbia, SC, where she continued to brighten lives and assist residents who needed a helping hand. Mrs. Crolley was preceded in death by her husband Don, her sister Peggy Seigler, and her brothers William (Billy) and Robert McDougall. Sarah is survived by her two loving daughters and their husbands, Marie and Gary Hogue of Irmo, and Donna and Hugh Mobley of Lancaster. Her seven precious grandchildren left to cherish their special memories on "Nanny" are Lea (Robbie) Hardy, Andy (Tiffany) Hogue, Katie (Mark) Smyers, Amy (Brent) McCraw, Drew Mobley, Sally Mobley, and Amanda Mobley. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Scott, and Greyson Hardy, and Anna and Caroline Hogue. Sarah is also survived by her "adopted" daughter, Mary Baskins of Lancaster, who was her companion for many years, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Her very special niece, Roslyn Sullivan, provided support and care for her precious Aunt Sarah during her final days. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., in the First Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Marty Hogue officiating. Interment will follow in Lancaster Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to the service. The family suggests that those who wish may make donations to the Dr. Donald L. Crolley Educational Foundation at the University of South Carolina-Lancaster, Post Office Box 889, Lancaster, SC 29721 or to Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community Resident Assistance Fund, Post Office Box 2959, West Columbia, SC 29171 in memory of Mrs. Crolley. Special thanks to the staff at Rosalie Bomar Special Care for their support, compassion, and love for Mrs. Crolley during the past two years, and especially during the final days or her life. The family would also like to thank Harmony Hospice for their care and kindness to Mrs. Crolley and her family. MAHAFFEY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER is assisting the Crolley family, please visit
