Sarah Carter Obituary

CARTER, Sarah WALTERBORO - Mrs. Sarah "Sallie" Crosby Bailey Carter, widow of the late John Ralph Carter, died Saturday morning at Oakwood Health Care Center in Walterboro. She was 96. Mrs. Carter was born in Auburndale, FL., September 7, 1910, a daughter of the late Henry Barnwell Crosby and Sarah McQuady Crosby. She received Nurse's training at Bartow General Hospital in Bartow, FL., later became a homemaker and eventually retired as a saleslady from Lerner's Dress Shop in Charleston. She was a member of the Ruffin Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Helen Bailey Padgett, and husband William C. Padgett Sr., of Walterboro, and two grandsons, William C. Padgett, Jr., and wife Cheryl, of Austin, TX., and John Padgett, and wife Julie, of Atlanta, GA. There are five great grandchildren, Jessica, Austin, Michael, Sarah, and Summer Padgett. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her first husband, James W. Bailey. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with committal services following in the Green lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Ruffin Baptist Church, P.O. Box 151, Ruffin, SC 29475.
