Sandra Obi Obituary

Sandra Stewart Obi CHARLESTON - Sandra Stewart Obi, 70, of Charleston and formerly of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away July 8, 2016. Born in Cullman, AL, she was the daughter of the late Floyd A. and Rosalee F. Stewart of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Sandra was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School. She attended and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. During her career Sandra taught students in grades K-12; and coached athletic teams at the Middle and High School levels. She taught for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System for twenty-three years. She loved all animals, especially her horse, Taz, dog, Liza and cat, Fred. Sandra had a passion for horses that included riding as well as attending horse shows. She was also very passionate about watercolor painting and drawing. She regularly attended art classes at the Lowcountry Senior Center. Sandra is survived by her loving children, Jake Obi and wife Jennifer Obi of Charleston, SC, Amanda Obi of Charleston, SC and Jacquie Obi of Hendersonville, TN; brother, Ferris Stewart and wife Elaine Stewart of Isle of Palms, SC; grandchildren, Pete, Dylan, Braylyn, Jack and Jesse; nieces and nephews; Jill Stewart, Sarah Simpson, David Stewart and Jason Stewart. A celebration of Sandra's life will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 AT 2:00 p.m. in MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, JAMES ISLAND CHAPEL. The family will receive friends following the service in the funeral home.
