Samuel Quarterman Obituary

Samuel Joseph Quarterman CONWAY, SC - Samuel Joseph Quarterman, 77, husband of 54 years to the late Edith LuVane Lewis Quarterman, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Agape Hospice in Conway. Mr. Quarterman was born in Brunswick, GA a son of the late Vossey Alexander and Mary Wilson Quarterman. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church. Served in South Carolina National Guard C. B 118th Infantry 51st Division (Washington Light Infantry) prior to enlisting in the US Air Force during the Korean Era. Retired from the Office of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair, United States Navy, 6th Naval District, Charleston, SC. As Ships Surveyor, Mechanical Systems. Raised to the degree of Master Mason in Walhalla Lodge No. 66 AFM in March of 1955. Charter Member, Past Master and Life member of Olde Charles Towne Lodge No. 405 AFM and Orange -Charles Towne Lodge No. 14 AFM. Past President of the Charleston Air Force Base (Now Charleston Area) Square and Compass Club. Thirty Second Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Member of The National Association of Retired Federal Employees, The American Legion, The Forty and Eight, The Disabled American Veterans and an associate member of The Blind Veterans Association. Mr. Quarterman was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. Surviving are: one daughter Marcy Q. Edwards of Conway. Three grandchildren, Tiffany Edwards of Aynor, Ross Edwards, Jr. and Derrick Edwards both of Conway. Two great grandchildren Trevor Edwards and Cooper Boyd both of Aynor. One sister Malvina Crosby of Charleston, SC. One brother David S. Quarterman of James Island, SC. He was preceded in death by two sisters Cleo Fletcher and Edrie Richardson. Two brothers Vossey Quarterman, II and Lester "Buddy" Quarterman. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Sharon Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Bell, Rev. Roger Black and Rev. Dennis Williams officiating. Burial will be he held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the charity of one's choice. The family wishes to thank Diane Johnson for the special care she provided and also special thanks to Charles and Marjorie Lewis for their love.
