Salvatore Familia Obituary

FAMILIA, SR., Salvatore Salvatore Joseph Familia, Sr., 84, of Summerville, SC, died Friday, October 24, 2008, in the VA hospital. Born April 6, 1924 in New York, NY, he was one of three children of Anthony Familia and Susanna DeBella Familia. Mr. Familia was a retired supervisor in the New York garment district. He served in the US Army and was a life member of the VFW Post 3433. He enjoyed the Hanahan Senior Center where he played cards several times a week. He is survived by his children, Richard Anthony Familia (Suzan) of North Charleston, SC, Salvatore Joseph Familia, Jr. of Amityville, NY and Jeanmarie Earl (Joe Boccio) of Medford, NY; six grandchildren, Amy Familia (Levi Crawford), Ashley Trott (Griffin), Michael Clayton (Aleesha Wheatley), Thomas J. Earl, Alyssa Earl and Shannon Earl; three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Victoria and Ella; sister-in-law, Margaret Familia; brother-in-law, Eugene Hawxhurst; and special companion, Ruth Brower all of New York. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Marie Montefusco Familia; brother, Anthony Familia; and his sister, Winifred Hawxhurst. The funeral services will be held in Medford, NY with interment at the Long Island National Cemetery, Long Island, NY. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston, Sunday, October 26, 2008 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
