Sadie Murdaugh Obituary

Sadie Murdaugh SMOAKS, SC - Sadie Frances Muller Murdaugh heard the Master's call on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at her residence in Smoaks, and touched the hand of God, leaving earth for a home above. Her wings were ready; we were not. Ms. Sadie, or "Nana" as she was called by her family and friends, was born in Colleton County on June 8, 1940, daughter of the late Francis G. Muller and Sadie Priester Muller. She was an active member of St. Matthews Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher for all ages, enjoying her time as an adult teacher, VBS Director, WMU director, and serving on many other things when and where needed. Ms. Sadie was employed by Dorchester School District IV in food service for 28 years, rising three service ranks in her tenure, and serving as Manager at retirement. She especially loved serving the little K-5 children. She also especially loved her grandchildren who were affectionately called "Chaps", the name started by their Popabear/Paba. Cooking for her family and their friends was her delight and joy, even when she never knew how many would show up. She was the widow of Marshall Murdaugh, the l ove of her life for 65 years. Surviving are: two sons, Michael Murdaugh and wife, Dell of Smoaks, and Dean Murdaugh (Phil) of Long Beach, CA; a daughter-in-law, Alesa Murdaugh of Round O; four grandchildren, Kayla Dell Murdaugh (husband, Ian Moore) of Simpsonville, Kristen Michele Murdaugh (Camden) of Charlotte, Samantha Ada Murdaugh of Round O, and Keeley Marshall Murdaugh (Alex) of Rock Hill; three sisters-in-law, Myrtle Bentley of Walterboro, Judy Axson (Bobby) of Columbia, and Roma Muller of Lexington. She was preceded in death by: a son, Curt Murdaugh; a granddaughter, Alesa "Allie" Frances Murdaugh; a brother, Reverend John C. Muller, Sr.; a sister-in-law, Mary Ola McAlhaney; and three brothers-in-law, Ted Bentley, Roy H. McAlhaney, and Tommie Kinard. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be directed in her memory to: St. Matthews Baptist Church, 2593 Wire Road, St. George, South Carolina 29477, or Connie Maxwell Children's Home, 810 Maxwell Ave., Greenwood, South Carolina 29646. The Relatives and Friends of Ms. Sadie Murdaugh are invited to attend her funeral services which will be conducted at 2:30pm Sunday afternoon, January 7, 2024, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro. The Reverend John Muller, Jr. will be officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 o'clock at THE BRICE W.
