Sadie Black Obituary

BLACK, Sadie WEST COLUMBIA-Sadie Chatham Scott Metz Black, 90, died November 9, 2007, in Lexington Medical Center after an illness. A daughter of the late Hugh Wilson Scott and Annie Kate Chatham Scott, she was born in Kershaw, SC, on October 14, 1917. Services for Mrs. Black will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at 11 a.m. in Mount Tabor Lutheran Church in West Columbia, SC, with Pastors Paul and Ginny Aebischer officiating. The family will greet visitors at the church following the service. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington will be assisting the family. Surviving are four children, Carol Metz Peecksen and her husband John N. Peecksen, Jr., and Sarah Metz Hemingway, all of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Wilson Scott Metz and his wife Sandy P. Metz of Omaha, NE; Celie Metz Addy and her husband the Rev. James W. Addy of West Columbia, SC; a step-daughter-in-law, Jackie Dubose Black of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, John Peecksen, III, and his wife Shandra, of Savannah, GA; Scott Peecksen and his wife Regina Branton of Houston, TX; Laura Hemingway Zeron and her husband Randy of Hanahan, SC; Beki Hemingway Kerkman and her husband Randy, Matthew Hemingway and his wife Kate, and Joshua Hemingway, all of Denver, CO; Naomi Metz Barr and her husband Robert, of Omaha; Noah Metz and his wife Sarah of Martinez, CA; Karen Addy Rhodes and her husband Milt, of Raleigh, NC; Lynn Addy and her husband Eric Mullis, of Charlotte, NC; step-grandchildren, Beth Black Smith and her husband Bill, and Cooper Black, III, and his wife Deborah, all of Columbia; Ty Stone and his wife Trisha, and Denton Stone and his wife Brooke, all of Savannah; 14 great-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Black was predeceased by her first husband, Julian Metz; her son-in-law Thomas E. Hemingway; her second husband, H. Cooper Black, Sr.; her stepsons Dr. H. Cooper Black, Jr. and Mathews Tyre Black; and her sister, Catherine Scott Murray. Cremains will be buried at First Baptist-Santee Cemetery, Elloree, SC, Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at 4 p.m. and at Bethany Cemetery, Charleston, SC, on Thursday, November 15, 2007, at 10 a.m. The family gives special thanks to Dr. John G. Black and the staff of Lexington Medical Center for the excellent care provided Mrs. Black during her illness.
