Rutha Byers Obituary

BYERS, Rutha Rutha Welborn Byers, 94, formerly of Cresent Avenue, widow of Cornell O'Brien Byers, died Friday, July 7, 2006 at Foothills Presbyterian Home. Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Charles Ligon and Joella Gresham Welborn. Mrs. Byers was retired from B.L. Montague, Inc. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a former member of Central Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She was a volunteer with Greenville General Hospital for 5 years. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Byers Watkins of Simpsonville; a son, Eugene Waite Byers, CDR USN, RET. of Charleston; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Jackson O'Brien Byers and a brother, Jack Welborn. Memorials may be made to the Foothills Presbyterian Home of South Carolina , 205 Bud Nalley Drive, Easley, SC 29642. Services will be held Monday, July 10, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. in Remembrance Chapel of Woodlawn Memorial Park.
