I knew Russell Warren as the president of Northeast Missouri State University, where I went to college. President Warren was extremely welcoming to the first-year class, and I have especially fond memories of him from our orientation. He was a good man.

DR. Warren taught a class, Economic Thought, at The School of Business, University of Richmond, in 1972. I was in that class, and I've carried in my heart the kind words he gave me, regarding a research paper I wrote, for the last 51 years. From what I am now reading here about his life, many people were apparently touched by his grace and dignity. thank you, Dr. Warren.

Had the privilege of working with Russ for several years at Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore when he served as interim Provost. Not only was he a wonderful mentor, but I learned an incredible amount from him about leadership and friendship. Will miss him but remember him with fondness--happy we had the opportunity for our paths to cross.

I was the administrative assistant to Russ while he was the Interim Provost at Notre Dame of Maryland University. We got along famously and he always made me smile. He gave me great career advice and sent me a beautiful Christmas card every year. Rest in peace old friend.

Diane and I have known and admired Russ Warren since 1984 when he came to JMU. I know Russ not only as an outstanding administrator, but also as a devoted faculty member who cared for the students and taught (most) of them a deep respect for economics. Over the years Russ has been a golf partner, frequent house guest, travel partner, and he even called me back from retirement to serve with him at Florida Southern College in 2009.
We will always remember Russ for his infectious laugh, his good will toward most people, and his stories....Russ always had a story!
Rest in peace dear friend....and may Happy Hour in heaven be even better than the ones on earth!!

We were very sorry to hear about the passing of Russ. Russ always had a smile on his face and an entertaining story to tell. He was always a class act and will certainly be missed. Sending our love and comfort to all.

As an undergraduate at UR from 1965 to 1969, my intention was to attend law school upon graduation. Russ Warren interrupted those plans and put me on a path that (to me) was far more rewarding and enjoyable. After taking his Principles of Economics class as a sophomore (and doing well in both micro and macro), he pulled me aside and encouraged me to major in Economics, which I did. Later on, he encouraged me to pass on law school and pursue the PhD in economics, which I did. It was, quite frankly, the best professional decision I ever could have made. I spent my career in the shadow of Russ doing what I loved most - teaching economics and doing research. Simply put, I owe my career to him. RIP Russ-my teacher, faculty advisor, mentor, and friend.

You stood for justice,
And because of your courage,
We have grown flowers.

I am a nurse at Cedarfield and I had the pleasure
of spending a few moments with Mr. Warren and
right away I fell in love with his warm smile and
his beautiful spirit. I wish I could have known him
sooner. I pray that all those who encountered him
will have peace and lots of joyful memories in Jesus
name Amen.

Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. What a great person, mentor, and father figure. He will be missed. Louis Hite: Economics major at UR 1974. I also had the please of selling Dr. Warren clothes and got to know him away from school. Class act no matter where he was.
