Russell McCants Obituary

Russell Everett McCants Andrews, SC - Russell Everett McCants, 88, husband of Carolyn Norton McCants died on May 9th, 2021, at his home. Mr. McCants was born in Williamsburg County on September 15, 1932, the son of the late Dewey McCants and Virginia Parsons McCants. He was a graduate of Williamsburg High School and was employed by International Paper Company for forty years until his retirement in June of 1992. He was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he had served as a Sunday School teacher for the C.C. Garris and Daisy Watson classes. He also served on the Trustee and Administrative Board for many years. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching college sports, especially the Carolina Gamecocks. Mr. McCants was a wonderful devoted husband, a great father and grandfather. He was a humble man who enjoyed a simple life on his family's farm. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Charles B. McCants, Dale McCants, and Ricky L. McCants; and one sister, Allison M Jenkins. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn; one daughter, Ann M. Newton (Mark) of Andrews, one son, Jimmy McCants (Sue) of Andrews; four grandchildren, Brian Newton of Goose Creek, Mindy Foster (Stan) of Georgetown, Michael McCants (Brittany) of Birmingham, AL, Travis McCants (Megan) of Alexander City, AL; six great-grandchildren, Layton and Loftyn McCants, Cooper and Emma Cole McCants, Eden and Sarah Foster. He is also survived by one sister, Brenda Wildes of Andrews and three sisters-in-law: Margie McCants, Verma M. Dean, and Bonnie N. Corbin and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be eleven o'clock Tuesday morning, May 11. 2021, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Jeff Roper and Rev. Dr. Ben Gafford. Burial will be in the Andrews Memorial Cemetery. The family would like to also give special recognition and thanks to Mr. McCants' hospice nurse, Carter Walker, RN of Amedisys Hospice for her devotion and outstanding care she provided to him before he passed. I did not know Mr. McCants. I worked for John Heyward McCants here in North Charleston for 15yrs. at the Phillip 66 Service Station and I knew some of his family in the Andrews area. I practically grew up with his sons; Rodger, Jerry and Lynn. My condolences goes out to the McCants Family.
