Rufus Arledge Obituary

Rufus F. "Pete" Arledge HAMPTON, SC - Mr. Rufus F. "Pete" Arledge of Luray Highway in Hampton passed away Tuesday afternoon at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. Mr. Arledge was born April 18, 1936 in Georgia to the late Heusie and Gladys McElveen Arledge. He was a M.P. in the Army and retired from Westinghouse in 1994 after 30 years of service. He was an active member and deacon at the First Christian Church in Hampton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, woodworking and gardening. He was affectionately known to his immediate family as "Pa Pa." He is survived by his wife, Nina Lucille Tuten Arledge of Hampton; step-daughter: Rita Cummings and husband Varn of Hampton; two grandchildren: Luke Mole of Palm Coast, Fl and Natalie Litvinas and husband Matthew of St. Robert, MO; one great-grandchild: Magnus Luke Litvinas. Mr. Arledge was pre-deceased by five sisters: Ann Scarcelletta, Virginia Rushing, Martha Ward, Patricia Wilcox and Rebecca Rushing. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 AM in the Hampton First Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Josh Oldfield and Rev. Claude Hydrick. Burial will follow in the Robertville Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 until 7 PM at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home located at 300 Mulberry Street West, Hampton, SC 29924 (803-943-3352) and until 10 AM on Friday, when the casket will be placed in the church prior to services. Memorials can be made in his honor to the Hampton First Christian Church, 400 Holly Street, West, Hampton, SC 29924.
