Rudy Barthel Obituary

Rudy F. Barthel SUMMERVILLE - Rudy F. Barthel entered into eternal rest on February 23,2015. He was 83. Rudy was born March 1, 1931 in Fort Huron, Michigan to the late Emil and Minnie Barthel. Rudy proudly served in the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years. After retiring, he worked at GE. Rudy loved fishing, listening to his music and, in early years, working in his workshop. He loved telling stories about his military career. He will truly be missed. Rudy was a member of Ridge Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Bunch Barthel of 63 years; 2 sons, Derell (Shirley) Barthel, Thomas (Belinda) Barthel; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Emil (Elaine) Barthel; and one sister-in-law, Helen Barthel. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Minnie Barthel, two sisters, Peggy Learman, Ella Hull and one brother, Walter Barthel. Graveside services with full military rites will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Ridge Baptist Church at 2168 Ridge Church Rd., Summerville, SC, with the Rev. Eubanks and Rev. Peyton officiating. The family will receive flowers at 442 Red Oak Circle, Summerville, and asks that all donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
