Rudolph Smith Obituary

SMITH, Rudolph Mr. Rudolph Lee 'Rudy' Smith, Sr., age 75, of North Charleston, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2008 at his home. Friends and family of Mr. Rudy Smith, Sr. are invited to attend his funeral service on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 3:00 pm at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC. Entombment will take place immediately following. A visitation will be held this evening, Wednesday, September 24, 2008 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Mr. Smith was born on March 3, 1933 in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Russell Smith and the late Mabel Conrad Smith. He joined the United States Navy in 1951 and entered the Charleston Naval Shipyard in October 1955 and retired in 1988. He retired from the United States Naval Reserve in 1992. He is survived by his affectionate companion of nine years, Earlene Gorchyca; three sisters, Ruth Golarski of Port St. Lucie, FL, Jeanette (Jean) Adams and Geraldine (Gerri) Pulotter of Morborough, CT; three sons, Rudolph Lee Smith, Jr. of North Charleston, Russell William Smith of Marion, GA and Guy Allen Smith of Dover, DE; three daughters, Ellen Marie Phillips of Dover,DE, Rachel Arlene McHatten of Isle of Palms, SC and Yvonne Mildred Stempson of North Charleston and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Flowers will be accepted at the funeral home or memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Rudolph Lee Smith, Sr.'s memory to The Trident Cancer Center, 9330 Medical Plaza Drive, Charleston, SC 29406.
