Rubye Munn Obituary

Rubye Kate Nelson Munn ROCK HILL, SC - Rubye Kate Nelson Munn, 88, of Rock Hill, SC passed away Friday, May 17, 2013, after a short illness. A native of Indiantown, SC, she was the adopted daughter of Billie and Lucille Nelson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wilson Harding Munn and her four siblings - Eleanor, Frank, Lyl and Bessie. Rubye was a graduate of the McLeod School of Nursing in Florence, SC and a member of the United States Army Nurse Corp. She served as Staff Nurse at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Hemingway, SC and later retired after 20 years with SC Dept. of Health & Environmental Control as a Registered Nurse. Prior to her retirement, she was presented the Outstanding Nurse Award in 1978 by the South Carolina Lung Association for her contributions in the fight against respiratory disease. Rubye was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed gardening and reading. Rubye was a woman of strong faith with a gentle and caring spirit who encouraged many throughout her life. She is survived by two children and three grandchildren: son, Michael Wilson Munn, retired Command Sergeant Major, US Army of Charleston, SC and Pueblo, CO; daughter, Peggy Munn Grobusky and her husband, Charles of Rock Hill, SC. Her grandchildren are Daniel Herbert Munn of Cardiff, Wales; Michael James Munn of Virginia Beach, VA; and Monica Kate Munn of Manhattan, New York. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Woodhaven Baptist Church, 2060 Marett Blvd, Rock Hill, SC. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the funeral service at the church. Internment will follow at a later date in Lake City, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodhaven Baptist Church; the Humane Society of York County, 2036 Carolina Place, Fort Mill, SC 29708 and Thornwell Home for Children, 302 S. Mike and Peggy you are in our thoughts and prayers. Freddy and I both have fond memories of "Miss" Rubye. She was such a gentle lady. She and "Miss" Virginia Lovett inspired me to choose nursing as my career.
