Ruby Harrison Winkle WALTERBORO - Mrs. Ruby Harrison Winkle, 82, of Walterboro, entered into rest eternal Sunday evening, October 19, 2014, at her home, while surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Amedisys Hospice. She was the wife of the late Mr. Jerry M. Winkle. Funeral services celebrating her life will be conducted 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, October 25, 2014, from The Walterboro Church of God, 4582 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro. The Reverend John Harbin officiating. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro. Born July 11, 1932, a native of Dorchester County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late John D. Harrison and the late Margaret Ann Johnson Harrison. Ruby possessed a genuine love that was heartwarming; and to the many infants and children whom she cared for over a lifetime in her daycare that instilled into them some of the virtues that made her a true Southern lady. She was a member of The Walterboro Church of God where for over forty-two years, she was a beloved icon within that congregation. At her church, her faith was truly evident in her faithful service, attendance and dedication in many aspects of the church's work as well as with her membership in Sunday School, the Choir, and the Senior Citizens' Group. She will be forever remembered as a great Southern cook as well as her love for gardening. Surviving are: nine of her twelve children, Jeanette Nolind of Ruffin, Steve Harrison of Walterboro, Ellen Harrison of Walterboro, Myra Colleen Smith and her husband Eric of Walterboro, Carrie Nettles Ulmer and her husband Lanier of Walterboro, Mark Winkle of Walterboro, Valerie Winkle Beach and her husband Larry of Hartsville, Robert A. Beck of Summerville and George Winkle and his wife Yarbi of Summerville; and a sister, Rachael Perry of Summerville. There nineteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren that also survive. She was preceded in death by three children, Jerry, Kenneth, and Carl Winkle; a daughter-in-law, Robin Smith Harrison; a son-in-law, Willis Nolind; one grandson; and five siblings, Annie Beck, and Parker, Seabrook, Wilson, and John Harrison. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care of Walterboro as well as to her loving nurse, Lesley Atkinson Cook and Chaplin, Reverend Craig Crosby and to all of their friends for their prayers and support.
