CAMPBELL, Roy ORANGEBURG - Dr. Roy Cecil Campbell, MD 81, died on June 22, 2005. He was a beloved physician who practiced general surgery in Orangeburg, SC from 1955-1990. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday at the graveside, Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev.Dr.Terry Peele officiating. The family will be at the home and visitation will be at Dukes Harley Funeral Home from 6-8 PM on Friday, June 24. He was born on October 26, 1923 in Laurens, SC. and was the son of the late Charles Dean and Lula Mae Bridges Campbell. After being Valedictorian of his Columbia High School Class, he received his B.S. degree from the University of South Carolina, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He was a member of Blue Key Honor Society and Phi Kappa Sigma at USC. He received his MD degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. He rendered medical and surgical care for nearly half a century. He served his internship at the University of Rochester and Strong Memorial Hospital, New York and served his residency in general surgery at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Columbia, SC. He practiced general surgery in Orangeburg nearly 4 decades. He was chief of staff at The Regional Medical Center in 1971. After retirement he served as a surgical consultant at the University Of South Carolina School Of Medicine. Dr. Campbell was a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery. He was a member of The Edisto Medical Society, South Carolina Surgical Association, South Carolina Medical Association, South Eastern Surgical Association, Southern Medical Association, and American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, and an honorary member of the Vanderbilt Alumni Association. He served in the US Navy during WWII at Paris Island .He served in the US Army Medical Corp Mash Unit #8063 in Korea and at Camp Zama, Japan. Throughout his life he was a staunch supporter of scouting and was himself an Eagle Scout. Dr. Campbell was an active member of First Baptist Church, Orangeburg and served as a deacon for many years. He was a charter member of the Couples Class Sunday School. Surviving are: his wife Robin Washburn Campbell, of the home; children Linda J. Campbell, MD, Chapin; Craig Dean Campbell, Atlanta, GA.; Shawn C.(Stan) Kiser, Chapin; Bonnie C. (Doug) Szubski, Mt Pleasant; and Jill C. (Ronnie) Smith, Greenville grandchildren Sloan McKay Kiser, Morgan Campbell Kiser, Logan Campbell Szubski, Bryson Campbell Smith, Haydn Campbell Weber, Tate Allison Smith, Robert Pierce Kiser, Hannah Leigh Smith, Zachary Campbell Weber, Ellen Campbell Szubski, Reagan Campbell Szubski. brother: Dean Campbell (Rozanne), Orangeburg, sister: Betty Jo C.Sims, Marietta, GA; Dear Friend and Caregiver LaDonna Lea Morris and daughter KaSandra Morris, Lexington.
