Rosemarie Austermann Ellis
Hanahan - Rosemarie Austermann Ellis was born in Lippstadt, Germany on July 24, 1940. She was a precocious child who gave her parents fits, but was an excellent student and sister. In 1967, she met Avery Ellis in Berlin where she was working as a typist. They settled in South Carolina in 1969. She raised three children: Roger, Michelle, and Henry, to whom she was an attentive and loving mother.
In 1985, she went to work in the Accounting Department for Bosch and worked there for twenty years until her retirement.
The last ten years she and Avery split their time between Alabama and South Carolina. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rosi passed peacefully in her sleep Monday, January 12th. She is survived by her adoring husband, Avery; three children: Roger Ellis, Michelle (Eric) Ahlberg, & Henry (Leah) Ellis; four grandchildren: Charles Ahlberg, Richard (Kelly) Ahlberg, Sallie Rose Ellis, and Jackson Ellis, and two great-grandchildren: Eric Brooks and Peyton Avery; and innumerable nieces and nephews. In Germany, she leaves behind two sisters, Ulla Austermann and Lillie Erig.
A memorial service for Rosi will be held at Ridgeway Funeral Home in Georgetown, South Carolina, on Saturday, January 24th, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, or Goodwill.
