Rosalie Kirshtein Garber SKOKIE, IL - Rosalie K. Garber, nee Kirshtein, 90, loving wife of the late Dr. Edward Garber; cherished mother of Joel (LeeAnn) Garber, Martha (Ben Jimenez) Garber, and Jane Garber; adored grandmother of Rebecca Borris and Matthew Borris; proud great-grandmother of Tristan Borris; and dear mother-in-law of the late Mitchell Trubitt. Mrs. Garber was the daughter of Abe and Edith Cohen Kirshtein. Born in Charleston, she was the eldest of five siblings of which she is survived by Sammy (Mitzi) Kirshtein, Louis (Mary) Kirshtein, Sol (Joyce) Kirshtein and Ruth Kirshtein Kaplan, all of Charleston. Blessed with a very keen mind, she was a superior student who attended Charleston Public Schools. She maintained her sharp, clear mind until the very end. Rosalie met the love of her life, Dr. Edward Garber (Chips), while he was based in Charleston during WWII. After the War, they moved to California where Chips received his Phd., in Genetics, at the University of California at Berkley. Rosalie and Chips later moved to Chicago where he was offered a Professorship at the University of Chicago. She will be mourned by her family, many friends and all those who knew and loved her dearly. We will miss her unqualified love, wisdom and leadership. Shiva, a period of mourning by the family, will be held beginning Wednesday, October 16 through Friday, October 18 and Sunday, October 20, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the residence of Sol and Joyce Kirshtein, 15 Rebellion Road. Graveside Services were held Monday, October 14 at Shalom Memorial Park, 1700 W. Rand Rd., Arlington Heights, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory to Temple Beth Israel, 3601 W.
