Ronald Norris Sampson MT. PLEASANT - Ronald Norris Sampson, age 90, passed away on Wednesday September 8, 2021 at his home in Mt. Pleasant, SC. A private Celebration of Life gathering will be held in the near future for family and friends. Ron was born on September 16, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA, to Stanley and Martha (Norris) Sampson. Ron grew up in the Homewood/Brushton area of Pittsburgh, and graduated from Westinghouse High School in 1948. He attended Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University), receiving Bachelor's degrees in electrical and chemical engineering in 1952. Ron worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation for his entire career, where he was Manager of the Chemical Sciences Division at the Churchill, PA R&D Center. He retired in 1991, after almost 40 years of service. Ron was an author and editor of many technical manuals and the holder of several patents. Ron was a dedicated professional and family man. He served in many leadership roles over the years, including the Toastmasters, Kiwanis, and served as president of the global professional organization IEEE. He enjoyed traveling for work and always had a great story to share. He was a collector of limericks and very enthusiastic about Civil War history. Ron also enjoyed fishing, the company of friends, and ornithology. His love of birds has been passed down to the next three generations of Sampsons. He was a committed man of faith and volunteered in service to his home church of St. Albans in Murrysville, PA, for decades. Ron was married in 1953 to Lois Jean (Wurmb) Sampson, until her passing in 2001. He is survived by his spouse, Lucy Williams of Mt. Pleasant, and by his children: Scott (Royce) of Mt. Pleasant, Lee (Lisa) of Marietta GA, Mark (Sharon) of Pittsburgh PA and Kim, and step-daughter, Lynn Williams of Mt. Pleasant. He also had 4 grandchildren, Kara Taylor (Nick) of Decatur GA, Chase (Alexis) of Los Angeles CA, Erica of Scotia NY, Kirby Morris (Thad) of Pittsburgh PA, and 4 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lutheran Hospice of SC, 1885 Rifle Range Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Arrangements are by the Charleston Cremation Center.
