Ronald Nelson Obituary

Ronald Norman Nelson CHARLESTON - Ronald Norman Nelson, 77, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Carol Wisby Nelson, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, May 24, 2023. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2023 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Beaufort National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel from 2:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m. Ronald was born June 5, 1945 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Louis A.R. Nelson, Sr. and Edna Miller Nelson. He was a 1963 graduate of Rivers High School. Ronald was a 1967 graduate of Newberry College with a BA in History and also a graduate of Webster College with an MA in Business. He worked over 20 years in civil service including positions in payroll, seven years as an accountant and auditor for the Federal Credit Union Administration and Government Testing. Ronald also retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve after more than 20 years. During his time in the reserves, he also served as active duty during Desert Storm. Ronald was a life-long member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and the American Legion. Ronald is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol; sister, Joan Nelson Maxwell of Johns Island, SC; two nieces: Jill Maxwell Douglas (Thomas) of Summerville, SC and Joni Maxwell of Johns Island, SC; and many other nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Trinity Memorial United Methodist Church, 273 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
