Ronald Causey Obituary

Ronald Dineen Causey Charleston - Ronald Dineen Causey passed quietly in his home Wednesday July 25, 2018. While he battled cancer and emphysema for many years, he recently suffered a broken heart after losing the love of his life Ruth 'Sabina' Causey on June 25, 2018. Ron was born in Moweaqua IL, May 21, 1938. After graduating from Mt Zion High School, he joined the US Navy in 1955. He soon found himself serving in the 'Silent Service' on submarines as a radioman. He served on diesels, boomers and fast attacks. He served during the Cold War and Vietnam eras. His favorite time was serving on the USS Darter (SS-576) from 1963 to 1968. His enlistment called him to many duty stations and he retired as Senior Chief in 1979. Ron held many degrees including a masters degree in Psychology, and believed in a strong education. He was briefly a math teacher at Edisto High School and a physics instructor at Trident Technical College. He loved debating and was a staunch Republican. In 1986, he met the love of his life Sabina. After 3 months of dating they married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1987. They loved going out on their boat and fishing. Later they traded boating life for an RV bus. After several years of adventures and traveling the United States, they finally settled in the West Ashley area of Charleston, where they lived their final years together. Ron is preceded in death by his wife Sabina; his parents, father Elmer Dineen Causey of Mt Zion IL and mother Fern Lucille Rhodes Marsh of Decatur IL; sister Patricia Ann Stickles of Chicago IL; sister Reba Marie Pharris, of Shelbyville IL; brother Eugene Lee Causey of Gages Lake IL. He leaves behind 5 children: Rhonda Robison of Gaston SC; Lisa Brazzale (Erik) of Newport News VA; Phillip Causey (Karen) of Virginia Beach VA; Jason Causey of Newport News VA;; Jedekiah Causey of Chapin SC; two step- children, Angela Herman (Byran) of Charleston SC; Earl Walker of Greenville SC; seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and 10 great- grandchildren. He was a good man and a good sailor, and I remember long talk with him at sea and a few long nights playing poker. My condolences to his family, i am sure he will be missed by them all.

Chief Causey, I arrived in Stimson as Communications Officer as my first submarine assignment out of Sub School, and you were my leading chief. You allowed me to screw up just often enough to learn some valuable lessons, but then you always bailed me out. You were a classic. Under you, Chief, every new radioman had to learn Morse Code even after that requirement was removed from the qual cards. Your men all revered you, as did I, but I never told you that because I was the new Lieutenant. Well, I'm telling you now. I wish you following seas.

So much of who I am is because of you. Everytime I tell stories about you, the response is almost always "so that's where you get it from." I have always looked up to you and admire you. I will miss our conversations about the Navy, golf, football and politics. I miss you and love you dad.

My dad was a unique individual, a sarcastic wit that will never be matched. I will never forget the fun times, the awesome talks about football( he hated my team, the Dallas Cowboys), politics (he hated left wing liberals more than the Cowboys). He taught me a lot about life, pushed me to be a hard working "productive member of society". I love you Pops and it makes me sad that I will never be able to call you up just to shoot the bull with you. You will be sorely missed and the world is now a lesser place without you.

I've always been proud to call you my father but you will always be my daddy. I've always been proud that you served our great country with the U.S. Navy in the Silent Service aboard submarines. You were unique and the world will never know another like you. You are with Sabina now daddy. The two of you are sailing the fair winds and following seas together. Rest In Peace Daddy...I love you and miss you.
