Roland J. Bonica GOOSE CREEK - Roland J. Bonica passed away on 26 December 2022 at his home in Goose Creek, SC, just weeks shy of his 99th birthday, in the company of beloved family members. At 98 years of age, he lived a long, happy and healthy life. Roland dedicated himself not only to his family, but also to the United States of America, as exemplified by his 33 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired in 1979 as Chief Master Sergeant. He served in most of the great conflicts of the 20th century, including World War II, Korea and Viet Nam. For Roland, family was always first, keeping his wife and daughters with him throughout his term of service, living together in Asia, Europe and the U.S. Roland Bonica was a good man, gentle in nature and deep in his commitment to family and friends. Upon retirement from the Air Force, he and his beloved wife of 69 years, Jean (predeceased), made their home in Goose Creek, SC, living there for 43 years. Besides continuing their international and national travels, Roland and Jean made their home a safe and welcoming place for all their family and friends. Those people fortunate to have known Roland remember him as a kind, compassionate, intelligent man who liked good conversation, a good laugh and his dogs. Roland, whose beloved wife Jean died in 2017, is survived by four daughters, seven grandchildren, and six great- grandchildren, His daughters are Janice Varda (Tony) of Tampa, FL, Marcia Bonica (Jim) of Brevard, NC, Stacy Henderson (Dale) of Knoxville, TN and Robin Bonica (Jim) of Naples, FL. His grandchildren, Angela Kronewitter, Ryan and Justin Henderson, Jordan and Darin Murray, and Madeleine and Denisa Varda, as well as his great-grandchildren, Kyrstin, Rylee and William Henderson and Zachary, Ciara and Isabella Kronewitter, all join in celebrating his life and mourning his passing. Roland was a caring and generous man who enriched the lives of all he knew. A full military funeral with family will be held this spring at the United States National Military Cemetery at Beaufort, SC for Roland and Jean.
