Roger Woodhull Obituary

Roger Wey Woodhull EDISTO ISLAND - Roger Wey Woodhull, faithful husband and father of three, died on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at the age of 78. Roger was born November 10, 1943 in Baltimore, MD to Miriam Boone Woodhull and Harold Frank Woodhull. Roger was a graduate of Northumberland High School in Heathsville, VA and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. He started a corporation with his father called Woodhull Enterprises in 1964 which, amongst other endeavors, owned and operated a gas station and International Harvester tractor supply retailer. After obtaining his MBA from Rutger's University in Newark, NJ, he went to work for several paint manufacturers including Hempel Marine Paint of Copenhagen and California Paint in Massachusetts. Roger was a devoted Christian and was deeply involved in every parish he attended, including the Church of Our Saviour in Milford, NH and Trinity Church in Edisto Island, SC. Roger was a dog lover, owning six during his lifetime, all Great Danes. Roger was an avid Bridge player and participated in the Edisto Duplicate Bridge Club. He was enamored of Edisto Island and gave generously to its community. He is survived by his wife, Brenda, his sons, Peter, Robert, and John, and his eight grandchildren. He was a good father, a better husband, and a great grandfather and will be sorely missed by many. Memorial services for Roger will be held 11:00 am, October 8th at Trinity Church in Edisto Island, SC. Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston

Roger was one of the most generous, thoughtful, & kindest man I know. He was an excellent bridge player & teacher. He taught many of us to be better players. I was lucky enough to have him as a duplicate bridge partner for 7 years. I truly miss him and he will always be a wonderful friend. My Prayers will continue to go out to the family. Trisha Anderson

I was blessed to meet and get to know Roger at Cursillo weekend #189 at Camp St. Christopher in October of 2021. We waited a long time for that weekend due to Covid and we were all pretty happy to finally be there. Roger was a blessing to his Decuria table and to all who met him. He was smart, thoughtful, kind, and always polite to everyone. I shared some photos from the weekend here and my favorite was when he agreed to lead us in prayer before lunch one day. He said a beautiful blessing for our meal and in doing so, blessed us all. I am so sorry to hear he is no longer here, but happy that we all know he is with Jesus now.

Roger was just a really nice guy and such a gentleman. Occasionally he played at the Charleston Bridge Center where I first met him. I was so sad to read that he passed away. Sincere condolences to his family.

I count myself, as very fortunate to have met and spent several hours with Roger. He was a very devout and thoughtful human being and was very focused on the "4th day" and in maintaining relationships created at the Cursillo week-end. I learned a lot from observing and in discussions with him. Although our time together, was short (and I regret I did not try to contact him) it was sweet and very meaningful. He is remembered and will be missed.
