Rodney Schoelkopf Obituary

Rodney "Rod" Lee Schoelkopf, Sr. FORT WAYNE, IN - Rodney "Rod" Lee Schoelkopf, Sr., DVM, 86, formerly of Walterboro, SC, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018. It is befitting that in springtime with abundant green and reflowering we are reminded of eternal life. Rod was born July 11, 1931, to George and Ferne Schoelkopf in West Reading, Pennsylvania. While based in Charleston, SC, with the Navy, his beautiful voice led him to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church choir where he met his dearest love, Doris, to whom he was married for 62 years. Surely now they are singing together with the heavenly hosts. Following his life-long love of animals, especially horses, Rod graduated from the University of Georgia with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. He applied his training by working in the International Division of Central Soya, travelling for years all over the world. Retiring to South Carolina, he continued to cultivate his varied interests including gourmet cooking and bread-making, classical music and opera, master gardening and horsemanship. Rod is survived by his children, J. Andrew Schoelkopf and Katherine E. (Barbara Derr) Schoelkopf; brother, Thomas (Barbara) Schoelkopf; a loving extended family and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, and his son, Rodney, Jr. A private service will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 1:00 pm at Bohn Chapel, Lindenwood Cemetery (Fort Wayne, IN) with burial following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to National Audubon Society, 225 Varick St., 7th floor, New York, NY 10014 or www.audubon.org. "Heart-felt thanks to the wonderful staff of Lutheran Life Villages at Pine Valley for their loving care." www.klaehnfahlmeltonfunerals.com Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

So sorry to learn of Rod's passing. Have lots of fond memories of both Rod and Doris at Central Soya International activities. It was such a pleasure to work with Rod for quite a few years and to exchange Christmas cards yearly to keep in touch after we both retired. Prayers for the family at this time. May the Lord comfort you and bring tons of loving memories to sustain you. Cathy Payne

I worked with Dr. Schoelkopf in the International Feed Division at Central Soya and remember him as one of the true gentlemen on the staff. He was just one of the many people who made Central Soya a great place to work. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
