Robert Taylor Obituary

Robert Harold Taylor Charleston - Robert Harold Taylor, 83, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017. He was born on January 23, 1934 in Meridian, Mississippi, son of the late Melvie White Taylor and the late Chestley Taylor. Harold attended elementary schools in Mississippi, and attended Charleston High School, before joining the US Air Force, where he served four years, during the Korean War. He was the past Deputy Grand Knight from the Knights of Columbus Council 6250 and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12472. He was a volunteer baseball coach for 19 years at St. Andrew's Parks and Playground. He coached the Dixie Youth and Dixie Boys, and won several championships with the teams. Harold is the past owner of Taylor's Loan Company, and president of Thom Enterprises. He was a founding member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and is a current member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Harold was a loyal Braves fan. He hated hockey, but he would sit down and watch every game. There have been few men who have had such a fierce pride in his family. He loved them all. He always had a story or a funny quip to tell, but mess with one of his and he would take you to task. It made no difference if he was out-gunned or manned; sheer will, a keen mind, grit, and determination got him through. Besides his parents, Harold is predeceased by three sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Agnes DeChriste Taylor of Charleston, SC; three sons: Dennis H. Taylor; R. Wayne Taylor and his wife, Amy; James "Jay" W. Taylor; two daughters: Shana R. Taylor and Rosemary S. Taylor, all of Charleston, SC; two grandsons: Sammy and Brant Taylor of Charleston, SC; two brothers: J.W. Taylor of Mobile, AL and Kenneth Ray Taylor of Pace, FL; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, with a rosary at 7:00 PM, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 11, 2017, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston, SC 29407. Burial will follow at Christ St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Meggett, South Carolina. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted to www.mcalister-smith.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, West Ashley Chapel, 2501 Bees Ferry Road Charleston, South Carolina, 29414, 843-722-8371.
