Robert Stewart Obituary

STEWART, Robert Robert John Stewart, 41, husband of Pamela Tonette Stewart, died December 23, 2007 at his home on Johns Island due to heart failure as a complication of diabetes. He was born January 29, 1966 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the son of Dr. Robert and Norma Stewart. He graduated from Saint Augustine Preparatory School in Buena, New Jersey, and attended Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, New Hampshire. He and his wife moved to South Carolina in 1995 where he founded, owned and operated Stewart Construction Co. on Johns Island. A builder for 21 years, he constructed high quality homes on Kiawah Island and in the nearby areas of the Lowcountry. A hard worker with an indomitable spirit, he gave freely and generously to those in need. Diagnosed with juvenile diabetes as an infant, he valiantly lived life to the fullest. His deep love of animals was reflected in his home and lifestyle, where numerous rescue dogs and horses found a loving home. He was an active member of the Lowcounty Lab Rescue and the Great Dane Rescue of South Carolina, fostering and adopting countless dogs. Without wanting acknowledgement or anything in return, he frequently helped fellow horse owners who fell on hard times, supplying hay and feed for their horses as well as adopting abused and neglected horses, which he then rehabilitated. His generosity extended to his human friends and to the community at large to whom he gave needed financial resources and, more importantly, his time and support. He donated use of his horse farm on Johns Island to Lowcountry Equine Assisted Psychotherapy as a satellite treatment facility. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 11 years, his sister Susan Leigh Hignutt (husband Frank) of Vineland, New Jersey, his nephew Michael Stewart Hignutt of Vineland, New Jersey, his father Dr. Robert Stewart and his mother Norma Stewart of Vineland, New Jersey, as well as his close friends. Friends will gather for a celebration of his life which will take place at a later date to be announced. Friends are invited to attend and encouraged to contact his wife at [email protected] for condolences and additional information about the memorial celebration. Donations to The American Diabetes Association, The Lowcountry Lab Rescue, The Great Dane Rescue of South Carolina and to Lowcountry Equine Assisted Psychotherapy may be made in lieu of flowers.
