Robert Smalls Obituary

Robert (Lonnie (Bobby) Smalls, Sr. CHARLESTON - Mr. Robert (Bobby) Lonnie Smalls, Sr., age 78, of Charleston, SC, died January 28, 2021 at Roper St. Francis Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Benita Brooks Smalls, who departed this life on January 10, 2021. The couple would have been married 57 years on February 1st of this year. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham Smalls and Lucille Randolph. Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Smalls Rivers (Joseph), three grandchildren: Kristyn, Kolby and Kennedy; brothers, Allen Smalls (Hazel), Joseph Randolph (Freda), a sister, Kellerceal Wragg, a sister-in-law, Jean Brooks Murphy (Earnest Raleigh Murphy) and brother-in-law William Woods; deceased siblings, sisters, Maxceal Smalls, and Ophelia Woods; and brothers, Melnot Smalls and Wayne Randolph. Mr. Smalls worked for the S.C. State Ports Authority and The Post and Courier and retired from both. He attended and graduated from Burke High School in the class of 1961. Viewing for Mr. Smalls will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 5pm to 7pm at Fielding Home for Funerals, 122 Logan Street, Charleston, SC 29401. A graveside service for Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Bobby) Lonnie Smalls, Sr. (Benita Brooks Smalls), will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 11am at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 2915 Ashley Phosphate Road, North Charleston, SC 29418. A memorial celebratory service will be held in Charleston, after the pandemic. Condolences may be sent to the family in care of Fielding Home for Funerals, 122 Logan Street, Charleston, SC, 29401.
