On behalf of the entire staff at the Intrepid Museum, I wish to offer condolences to Captain Slater's friends and family. It is always difficult to learn of a former crewmember passing. His legacy will be passed on to future generations through the stories told on the ship. Thank you for your service, and fair winds and following seas, Robert.

To the Slater Family,
I live in Capri Isle and Mr. Slater and I had some wonderful chats early in the morning as I was leaving the neighborhood to walk and he was on his daily walk. He was a kind soul and I will really miss seeing and talking with him. The neighborhood will not be the same.

I have known Bob for a short couple of years. A great gentleman, whose love for everyone and everything around him was boundless. Impossible not to like, his enthusiasm for life was infectious. I will miss you greatly old salt.
