I am going to miss my cousin-Robert calling me now and then, sending me emails, advising me on genealogy, disagreeing on politics in a friendly way.
I miss him already, but I am glad he got in touch and at least toward the end of his life we were not only cousins but friends.
I cherished the photos, especially the one of my mother at 3-years-old. He told me how "cute" and how much fun she was. He told me how it broke his heart when she married my dad.
My mother was Marie Salter, aunt to Robert and sister of his mother, Ruth. She was the baby girl in the family, only older than Elisha. My mother was staying with Aunt Ruth working the fields. My dad saw her and a month later they eloped.
Robert and I discussed our great-grandfather Jack Harrell lost in the Confederacy, dad of our grandfather Josiah Harrell.
What a guy--feisty, fun, and very loving.
God speed dear cousin Robert. I'll see you later. Tell my mother hello.

I've already been missing the warm emails from Cousin Robert. It was Robert who knew about the Hornsby side of our mutual ancestry. He filled in the blanks of my mother's stories about Big Joe and Little Joe Harrell and worked with me on figuring out why James D. Brown was listed twice in the 1860 census.
Beyond genealogy, Robert did thoughtful things like email me a picture of the Naval hospital where my grandson was born while my son was serving in Iraq.
My heart is sad to hear that he is gone from this earth, but I look forward to seeing him and our long sought kin in Heaven where all the family history mysteries will be solved.
And to the immediate family he leaves behind, my prayers are with you in your loss. God bless.

Robert was my first supervisor in the navy that went out of the way to try and lead this inexperienced "kid" in the right direction. My time in the navy on the USS Gyatt was made a great deal more enjoyable because of him. God's blessings on you Bob.

We are the three living children of Naomi Harrell Carroll and William Jesse Carroll. Robert's, mother Ruth Simpson was the sister to Naomi. His emails will be greatly missed. He helped us get to know our family history better. We shared a lot of memories of growing up with family. Remembering names, places and fun times was a trip back to when we were younger.
No more pain. God Bless and Keep You. We love you, Rebecca Carroll Hinds,Martin, GA, Mabel Simpson, Birmingham, AL and Joseph A. Carroll, Statenville, GA.

Robert contacted our family in 2004 to make us aware of our family connection. The connection was strong and immediate. Our family thanks Robert for sharing and sending long lost and unknown photos of our shared family and Grandfather, Robert Woods Simpson. Bless you Robert, knowing that you added life to those who passed before you. Tell them hello for us and we will see you again soon.
