Robert Simpson Obituary

Robert William Simpson Mt. Pleasant - Robert William Simpson ("Rob"), 66, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. Robert was born to Robert James Simpson and Gladys Langdon Simpson Johnson on January 10, 1951 in London, England. A graduate of Spur High School, he studied at the University of London International Programmes before immigrating to the Charleston, SC area in 1975, which became home. He met Susan Bowers Cunningham in the summer of 1975 and they married on August 4, 1981 in Edgware, Middlesex, England. Rob was passionate about his work in the film industry and was on the cusp of retirement after thirty years. He was an active member of the National Brotherhood of Teamsters, and currently working on the production of Mr. Mercedes, written by Stephen King. His favorite pastimes included golf, tennis, boating on the creek and entertaining family and friends, especially with his varied musical talent. Known for his positive outlook on life, sense of humor and being the "life of the party", he will be greatly missed by family, friends and co-workers. In addition to being survived by his parents, Robert James Simpson of London, England and Gladys Langdon Simpson Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, he leaves his wife of thirty-six years, Susan Bowers Cunningham Simpson, his children, Chelsea Simpson of West Ashley, Brooke, Taylor and Brittany Simpson of Mt. Pleasant, and step-son Shannon Cunningham of Summerville. Rob is also survived by his step-sister Debbie Simpson, and step-brothers, Brian Simpson and Gary Simpson, all of London, England. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at J. HENRY STUHR, MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant. So sad to read of Rob's passing. I am Mark, the son of Bill Marosek (Charleston Utd soccer team : green-and-white stripes) who looked up to Rob. Only 11 years old in 1976 when I met Rob playing for my Dad's team. Great player, cheeky character, so much fun to be around. We travelled from Scotland to be at your wedding when I was 16. My deepest sympathy to you. His smile will always be remembered.

One of the first people I met in the film industry, (G I Jane) we worked together on many productions. Always a great guy that you could depend on to get along with everyone. When we worked together in Asheville I needed a cast driver for Woody H, he was my first thought, what a great person to be around. A great loss to the world, a true friend. And so sad cause his family was always his first thought. I will miss Rob like no other, and so sorry for his family!

What an amazing person! I've worked with Rob over the years, last year here in Asheville. He was a true friend and Teamster brother. His personality was electrifying, along with his sense of humor. He just loved life. His family was his everything, always wanting to be with them, driving home on the weekends or having them come here to camp or anything that they may want to do. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. It's so heartbreaking. I feel truly blessed to have met such a man. He will be missed! "RIP Rob at God speed"!

I first met Rob on The Notebook. That smile and cheerful outlook was encountered on many films afterwards. You couldn't not like Rob. He made a bright spot in an otherwise hard day.

I miss him sorely now. No longer bicycling past my work room to smile at me and wish me a good day. I still expect to see him. Rob, you are missed.
