Robert Shoolbred was the quintessential southern man. He was poised, gracious, and an excellent story teller. He was a good cook and shared with his guests everything that he could. I remember being greeted at the door with an ice cold Moscow Mule and sausage and shrimp rice casserole on the stove. He was an excellent engineer and donated many of his servies to charities. He reached out to help those less fortunate and had the ability to extend his hand to anybody. He treated everyone with a respect that is difficult to find these days. To say that he left a mark on those who knew him is an understatement. He will not be forgotten by me. He touched my life in a deep way. I am forever changed.

Bob Shoolbred was a highly respected man. He was like a living legend with so much knowledge. I remember a young engineer once said, "I feel like I am learning by just standing next to Bob." I also told Bob on many occasions that I want to be like him when I grow up. I was on several tower project with Bob and learned so much from him not only in engineering aspects but life as well. I remember one 1000' tower that we were doing a final inspection on and Bob was climbing with me at 70 years young. I said Bob, what is your secret to staying healthy and he said he tries to climb a tower at least every month or two. I looked up to Bob with the utmost respect and admiration. I hope I can be half as good as Bob when I grow up.
