Robert Scanlon Obituary

Robert Scanlon, Jr. DANIEL ISLAND - Robert Edward Scanlon Jr., 43 of Daniel Island, South Carolina, died on Thursday, April 4, 2013, on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. Born September 13, 1969, in Montclair, New Jersey, he was the son of Robert E. Scanlon and Connolly Deerin Dittrich. Rob is survived by his parents, Tom & Connie Dittrich of Daniel Island, his sisters Katie Scanlon of Spokane, WA, Meghan Scanlon of Los Angeles, CA, Rebecca Scanlon and Maggie Scanlon of Shaker Heights, OH, and his brothers, William Scanlon and Timothy Scanlon of Shaker Heights, OH. Rob is also survived by his two Godmothers, Virginia Deerin of Sullivan's Island and Lesesne Hudson of Daniel Island, and his favorite uncles, James B. Deerin, Jr. of Oxford, MD and John E. Deerin of Clearwater, FL, and his grandfather, John Dittrich of Indianapolis. Rob also leaves behind his nieces Lucy Lenna Gehn, Grace Harper Gehn and his nephew, Angus Fitzsimmons Gehn of Spokane, WA. Rob loved them as if they were his own and one of his favorite activities was calling them via Skype and Facetime. They will miss their Uncle Bobbo. Rob was a well-loved man. He had many friends in the community and around the country, but none loved him more than his cousins with whom he celebrated a lifetime of summers on Pawleys Island, SC. They include JB Deerin, Greg Scott, Sloan Deerin, Chris Scott, Conley Rollins, Roth Scott, Andrew Deerin, Matthew Deerin, Patrick Deerin and Lucy Weathers. These individuals loved Rob unconditionally, laughing with him, including him in all their fun, and surrounding him with affection and devotion. Rob was predeceased by his brother, Charles Scanlon, his two Grandfathers, James B. Deerin and Edward J. Scanlon, and his Grandmothers, Lucy Lewis Deerin, Janet S. Dittrich and Christine H. Scanlon. The family extends special thanks to the Medical University of South Carolina and its caring doctors, nurses and staff who always went the extra mile to provide Rob with unparalleled medical care and respect over the past six years. They would also like to thank the gracious caregivers, especially Angela Aiken who so lovingly cared for Rob during his time in Charleston.
