Robert Rogers Obituary

Robert "Bob" N. Rogers, Sr. N. Charleston - Robert "Bob" N. Rogers, Sr., entered in eternal peace Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the age of 83. Bob was married to Diane Joye Rogers for 57 years. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 5, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. His funeral service will be held Friday in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. Bob as he was known to many was born May 11, 1934 in Mullins, South Carolina, to the late Shep Wesley Rogers and Molly Gordon Rogers. After his fathers death, his family moved to North Charleston in 1947. They joined Dorchester Waylyn Baptist Church, now Doorway Baptist Church, and was still a member at his death. Bob attended Chicora High School and while there, joined the National Guard Tank Division. He then entered the USAF. Upon returning to Charleston, he was employed at Westvaco, retiring with 42 years of service. Bob loved his children and enjoyed working with them in their many activities. He was a Cub Scout Master for Pack 481 and Baseball Coach on the Brentwood Field. Bob was Life member of Dorchester Masonic Lodge, and served the Charleston Elks Lodge as an Exalted Ruler and Trustee, being awarded Officer of the Year for 3 years. He also was awarded Life Membership by the Elks. Bob was loved by many and never met a stranger- having to speak to all he came in contact with. He always gave back in everything he did. He certainly enjoyed a good golf game with his many buddies. He is survived by his wife Diane, daughter, Terri R. Ackerman (Greg), sons, Robert Jr. (Sherri), Brian (Melissa) and Russell Rogers; grandchildren, Whitney Rogers of Walterboro, Emily Grace and Grayson Ackerman of Moncks Corner, and Troy and Hannah Rogers of Goose Creek. Also many wonderful nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Shep Wesley Rogers, and two sisters, Frances R. Powell, and Harriett R. Coleman. Memorials may be made to BPO Elks #242 Scholarship Fund, 1113 Sam Rittenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407 or Doorway Baptist Church Building Fund, 7825 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC 29418. My heart aches for Diane and family, we have known Bob for over 60 years and know that he was a wonderful person, and will truly be missed. My faith tells me that when he closed his eyes on this earth, he opened them in a wonderful new world to explore. He no longer experiences pain and discomfort. What a wonderful plan the Lord has blessed us with. God Bless, until we meet again. Love, Joan & LeGrand
