Robert Plexico Obituary

For Bobby
Robert L. Plexico, Jr.
Robert Luther Plexico, Jr. (Bobby) of Charleston, South Carolina passed away Friday, March 27, 2026, at the age of 52. He is survived by his devoted wife, Monica Hattaway Plexico, who lovingly and bravely cared for him over the past 19 months. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him and graciously leaves behind an endless trail of joy, kindness and generosity.
Born on November 14,1973 in Greenville, S.C., he was the son of the late Robert Luther and Frances Coleman Plexico. Bobby grew up in Greenville where he enjoyed a childhood filled with long summers with his friends. Bobby, a gifted guitar player, learned how to play the guitar at a very young age and began his long music career when he was only 13 years old. After graduating from Eastside High School in 1993, Bobby moved to Charleston at the age of 21, where he continued his growing music career. He met his wife Monica in 2014 and they were married in a beautiful ceremony on Cedar Mountain just three years ago. They moved to their new home soon after, where they continued building their beautiful life together. Bobby was blessed to have Monica as his perfect companion and tireless, unwavering cheerleader. He loved her dearly and was a devoted husband.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed countless car races and NASCAR trips with his father, but the Daytona 500 trips each February were the ones he looked forward to the most. He inherited his love of the water from his mother, and he couldn't wait to take his boat out again each summer or take family trips to Litchfield Beach, where he looked forward to afternoons on the beach and eating at his favorite restaurants. A year ago, he visited his favorite place in Turks and Caicos and enjoyed a memorable sunset cruise.
Bobby was known by all to be loving, genuine and kind, with a smile that preceded him as he walked into a room. His cherished friends, the kind only someone like Bobby had for a whole lifetime, will remember him as loyal and caring, the one who remembered them on special days and birthdays or when one of them was going through a difficult time. He was both a brother and a son to his brother-in-law, Keith Meacham, who taught him to play the guitar. He was also like a son to his father-in-law, Errol Hattaway, who enjoyed watching car races with Bobby on Sundays and who became a loyal visitor, companion and friend. To his nieces and nephews, he was a wonderful uncle. His sisters will remember his fun nature, his bravery and his loving devotion to Monica. His family will miss all of the holidays, beach trips and family celebrations. We will all miss the calls, the inside jokes, the meals, the bond. We will remember his heroism and grace.
He is survived by his beloved dogs, his adored companions Wilson and one year old Clyde, who were by his side until the very end.
He is also survived by two sisters, Patricia Plexico Boutwell and Diane Plexico Meacham (brother-in-law, Keith Gilbert Meacham), of Greenville; seven nieces and nephews, Alexander Boutwell, Kevin Boutwell, Dallas Coleman Meacham, Layton James Meacham, Taylor Diane Meacham, Henry Bennett Oyler and Betty Dean Oyler (brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chip and Christina H. Oyler); brother-in-law, Errol Justin Hattaway; and father-in-law, Errol Henry Hattaway, of McClellanville.
A service will be held at Pretty Place (Fred W. Symmes Chapel) in Cleveland, S.C. on Sunday, April 19 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Thornwell, in Clinton, S.C., at thornwell.org
