Robert Parrish Obituary

MIDDLEBURG - Born in Newport News, Virginia, in 1950, Bob was the son of Ada Mae and Robert Wilson Parrish. Bob graduated from Newport News High School in 1968 where he actively participated in varsity football and track. Bob played a vital role on the Track and Field State Championship teams in 1967 and 1968. In 1973, Bob launched a life-long career in the real estate industry. After 10 years in real estate sales, Bob became a real-estate mortgage officer before opening his own company as a licensed real-estate appraiser in 2001. Bob was an extremely kind, thoughtful and generous man. He cared deeply for the people in his life, and always put the needs of his family and friends above his own needs. He was an avid history buff, particularly knowledgeable about the U.S. Civil War, which he loved to talk about with everyone he met. Bob was cited in the forward of a book called Virginia Curiosities. He provided the author, Sharon Cavileer, with a large number of story ideas based upon little known trivia about Virginia some of which was related to Civil War battles or military figures. Predeceased by his mother and father. He is survived by daughter Amy Lang and her husband Matt, son Stephen Parrish and his wife Paula. Five grandchildren: Morgan, Patrick, Felicity, Henry and David. Brother Conley Wilds, his wife Jill and their daughter Melissa. Step-father Conley Wilds. Ex-wife Rebecca Downie, and his 20-year companion, Helen Ryan and her family. A funeral service will occur Saturday, January 19 at 11am in the Peninsula Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, 12750 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA 23606.

Bob was such a sweet man. He and Helen were neighbors for quite a few years and he always had a warm greeting for everyone. When you walked into his house, he would make you feel like you were his best friend forever. I can still hear his voice. We miss you Bob. Our heartfelt sympathy to Helen and her family and to Bob's children and grandchildren.
With love, Libby, Joe and Michael

My deepest sympathy is extended to all of Bobby's family and loved ones concerning this loss. I went to school with Bobby since 1961 until our graduation from NNHS in 1968. Being informed of this loss brought great sadness and pain to my soul, for truly he was a very kind person with a gentle spirit.
As Christians, we have a wonderful hope in the words of our Lord Jesus that we WILL BE reunited with our loved ones again, for Jesus has given us this glorious promise…..

“I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die.”
John 11:25&26

The comfort, the peace, the strength, and the grace that our Lord Jesus gives will sustain you during this time.

I was completely taken by surprise when I got the e-mail from Conley the other day. Bob and I had recently spoken, and it just magnifies the fact that life is too short. Bob, thank you for you friendship, it was never taken lightly. Rest in Peace my friend, and my prayers to the family, as you are already missed.
