Robert Newsome Obituary

Robert Newsome Jr. WRIGHTSVILLE, GA - Mr. Robert Lewis Newsome, Jr., age 83, entered into eternal rest Monday, November 25, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at the Brown Memorial Baptist Church with interment to follow at Westview Cemetery. Rev. Phil Pilgrim and Rev. Stephen Blitch will officate. He was born January 30, 1930, in Davisboro, Washington County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Robert Lewis Newsome, Sr. and Cornelia Phillips Newsome. He was a four year veteran of the United States Air Force having served two of those years in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Newsome was the retired owner/operator of Newsome Ford and Oil Companies, Cedar Creek Ham Company and Newsome Farms. He was a member of Brown Memorial Baptist Church and was educated at the University of Georgia. He helped establish and was the first president of the Johnson County Golf Club. He served as first vice-president of the Board of Directors with the Bank of Wrightsville until his retirement. He was awarded the Trailblazer Award for his outstanding support of the Boy Scouts of America. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening and golf. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Frances Harrison Newsome, three children, Mary Paula Newsome of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Robert Lewis Newsome, III of Albany and Carnage Harrison Newsome of Wrightsville and two grandchildren, Katherine Harrison Newsome and Robert Lewis Newsome, IV. Pallbearers will be Donald Vanlandingham, Ronald Caneega, Ricky Snell, Herschel Walker, Phillip Boatright, Tommy Lovett, Howard Brantley and Walter Price. Honorary escorts will include his past co-workers and employees. If so desired, contributions may be made to Brown Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. 191, Wrightsville, Georgia 31096.
