Robert Moore Obituary

Robert Stanley Moore, Sr. ST. GEORGE, SC - Robert Stanley Moore, Sr., Loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away Monday, October 24, 2011. Mr. Robert S. Moore, Sr. was born on November 28, 1933 in Yonkers, New York. Mr. Moore was 77 years old at the time of his death surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 54 years, Peggy McKee Moore of St. George, South Carolina. He was devoted to Peggy, his best friend and together they raised four children in a loving, fun and adventurous home. He graduated from Hallstead High School in Yonkers, NY, attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Ct and earned his Bachelor of Arts there and attended Duke University in Durham, NC and earned where he earned his MAT. Mr. Moore served in the Army from 1955-1957. He taught English at Wilton High School, Wilton, Ct. for 26 years and at USC Salkehatchie, Walterboro, SC. He was an independent piano tuner for 20 plus years in Connecticut and South Carolina. His passion for music lead him to perform in and direct theater productions, perform with Santee River Jazz, participate as an active choir member in First Congregational Church, Bethel, Ct and St. George United Methodist Church, St. George, SC and other singing groups. As well as being a singer, he played the trumpet and piano and was a certified piano tuner. As an educator he loved reading and was an active member of the Friends of the Dorchester County Library-St. George branch. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking in his shop. Surviving children are Robert S. Moore, Jr. (Karen) New Milford, Ct., Allyson Murray Alloway (Dan) Bethel, Ct, Lisa M. Carter (Lavoy) Lugoff, SC and Thomas R. Moore (Lori) Sumter, SC. Surviving grandchildren are, Chris Miller (Karina), Amy (Jeff) Taylor, Sarah Moore, Jennifer Moore, Erin (Evan) Quinlan, Michael Murray, Jordan Carter, Kelli Carter, Craig Carter, Matthew (Jeanie) Moore, Rebecca Moore, David Moore and Megan Moore. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am at St. George United Methodist Church, 120 North Parler Avenue, St. George, SC 29477. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. George United Methodist Church,PO Box 506 St. George, SC 29477, Dorchester County Library-St. George branch Jenny Johnston McMahon Library, 506 N.
