Robert Meynardie Obituary



MEYNARDIE, Robert Robert Ellis Meynardie, 84, of Summerville, husband of Mary Elizabeth Wood Meynardie died Saturday morning, July 12, 2008 at the Presbyterian Home in Summerville. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11 o'clock at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Summerville. Inurnment will follow immediately at St. Luke's Columbarium. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Mr. Meynardie's life on Monday, July 14, 2008 from 5 until 7 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville. Memorials may be made to: St. Lukes Lutheran Church, 206 Central Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483. Mr. Meynardie was born April 9, 1924 in Charleston, son of the late James William Meynardie and Martha Winnie McGee Meynardie. He was a graduate of Newberry College and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Columbia, SC. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving in World War II. He was called by the United Lutheran Church in America to serve as a missionary in Japan, serving as a pastor of the Yokohama Lutheran Church and Business Manager for the Mission. For three years he served as Business Manager of the American School in Tokyo. He retired to the States to manage independent schools in Ohio and New York. In retirement, he was a 15 year volunteer in the Disaster Services of the American Red Cross and for two years the chairman of the Disaster Services. He was a Tax Aide Counselor for the AARP and Tax Aide Counselor for VISTA of the IRS. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters and two sons, Joy Derrick of Summerville, Betsy Meynardie and her partner, Julia Tower of Hyattsville, Maryland, Bob Meynardie and his wife Catherine of Raleigh, North Carolina, John Meynardie and his wife Jane of Biloxi, Mississippi; eight grandchildren, Jenna Derrick Cartee and her husband Jeremy, Jeff Derrick, Jr. and his wife Stephanie, Michael Meynardie, Elizabeth Meynardie, Margaret Meynardie, Jack Meynardie, William Meynardie and Ellie Meynardie; one great granddaughter, Eden Joy Cartee; and one brother, Carl Meynardie of Hanahan. As a pastor wife in the same faith, I am blessed by reading Mr. Meynardie's life story and the legacy he has left behind. God is surely pleased with his faithful servant and taking him home. May God comfort and walk with you all especially Mrs. Meynardie and the family during this difficult time.
God bless and we surely will see him one day in heaven.
