Robert McGuffey Obituary

McGUFFEY, Robert SAYREVILLE - Robert E. McGuffey, age 83, of Sayreville, passed away Friday, January 19, 2007, at Greenville Hospital, Jersey City. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he had resided with his family in Sayreville for 53 years. Before his retirement in 1986 he was the employed as a Technical Director for The McNeill Lehrer Report on Channel 13 WNET, where he worked for 40 years. He had retired to Mt. Pleasant South Carolina where he lived for 14 years and worked as a ranger for the Wild Dunes Golf Club. Mr. McGuffey was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving as an aviation mechanic in the Blimp Hedron Squadron, was a member of the BPOE Elks in James Island, South Carolina and was a New Jersey State Seniors Golf Champion and multiple club champion at Glenwood Country Club in Old Bridge. He was a communicant of Christ Episcopal Church in South Amboy. He is predeceased by his wife Ethel Blakeslee McGuffey in 1992 and by his brothers James and Alfred McGuffey. Surviving are his daughters and their husbands Jane and Charles Kerzan of Sayreville, Beth and Jack Bogush of Jersey City and Karen and Jeffrey Koob of Williamsburg, Virginia, and his five grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Mark and Thomas. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Christ Episcopal Church in South Amboy with private cremation to follow. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the CARMEN F. SPEZZI FUNERAL HOME, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin, New Jersey. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in Robert's name be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
