Robert "Bob" H. King, Jr. MT. PLEASANT - Robert "Bob" H. King, Jr. left this world for his home in paradise on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. His funeral service will be held Friday, June 30, 2023 in the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 302 Hibben Street, at 11:00 am. Final arrangements are by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Johnson King; and their daughters, Kristin King Sznajder (Ari) of Hershey PA and Ashley King Lamprell (Rob) of Sawbridgeworth, England. Cherishing his memories are his four grandchildren: Leon and Ezra Sznajder and Aurelia and Emmeline Lamprell. His extended family includes two brothers, Thomas King (Terry), Richard King (Cinda) and their children and a sister, Rama King Mock (James). Also, Bert Johnson (Dianne), Don Johanson (Bette) and Julise Johanson and their children. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. King, Sr. and Betty Bailey King, both of Lancaster, SC. Bob was born on December 2, 1945 while his Dad was serving in the war in the Pacific. Bob lived in Lancaster, SC until his Dad returned and went to Clemson University. Bob attended Elementary school in Fort Mill, graduated from Chester High School in 1963 and attended Clemson. At Clemson, Bob was a proud member of the Pershing Rifle Drill Team. He left after his sophomore year to join the Army. Bob trained as a Russian linguist and after Officer Candidate School, he was stationed in Germany with the Army Security Agency in Military Intelligence rising to the rank of Captain in the Army Reserve. He returned home to finish college at USC and marry his only love and High School sweetheart, Linda in 1971. Linda's career took them to New York, where she was the Anchor and an Associate Producer of "Today's Woman", a national syndication of Newsweek Broadcasting Service. Bob became the Field Representative for the New Rochelle, NY Social Security office. Bob realized his dream of becoming an industrial chemical sales representative when he was hired by Dow Chemical and later Bayer Corporation. Bob was privileged to be involved in introducing plastic body panels to the automotive industry, a project that is listed in the Society of Plastic Engineers Hall of Fame. He was also a team member in the first EPA competition known as Superfridge (SERP), which was the beginning of the Energy Labeling of appliances. Working with Whirlpool Corporation, the team won the award. Bob advanced to the position of division Vice President at Bayer Corp Polymers (polyurethane) division. In 2001, he was given the opportunity to retire. Bob was offered an opportunity to assume the position of President and CEO of the Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB). The company later became the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) after an extensive reorganization. Bob retired on his 62nd birthday and he and Linda moved to Mount Pleasant, SC for a dream retirement. They spent much of their time traveling the world and then became involved in volunteer work. A resting elder in the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Bob was active on the Finance committee, the Pacesetters Board, Hands of Christ, Vacation Bible School and as a member of the Children's Sermon Ministry Team, where he was affectionately known as "Mr. Bob." Bob gained quite a following for his Children's Sermons with his opening line, "Come on down, boys and girls, Mr. Bob has a story for you!" Bob had a gift for bringing Bible passages to life, with his clarity, brevity and wit. He will not only be missed by his own family, but by his church family and by the children whose lives he touched with his grace and humor.
