Robert Johnson Obituary

Robert "Lee" Johnson FORT MILL, SC - Robert "Lee" Johnson, 89, of Fort Mill, SC, husband of Bobbie Jean Johnson entered into eternal rest Wednesday, August 6, 2014. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 11, 2014 in John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway at 3:00 p.m. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL. Lee was born March 16, 1925 in Branchville, SC, son of the late William Thomas Johnson and Mary Sims Johnson. Lee embraced life with the same enthusiasm as he embraced his family. He lived by the Ten Commandments and encouraged others to do so as well. He loved boating and picnics on Kiawah Island, he was a master woodworker, avid runner and a beloved member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and Belair United Methodist Church in Fort Mill. He was an Eagle Scout and troop leader and was active in the Civitan Club of Charleston. His commitment to his country led him to service in WWII, serving aboard the destroyer Patterson as part of the World's Greatest Generation who risked their lives for our country's freedom. He was a retired Gas Turbine Superintendent for SCE&G. He was also a Past Master of James Island Lodge #396 A.F.M. Lee was truly a Southern gentleman and a man of his word, but mostly he was a man of God. His quick smile and handshake shall be missed by the many lives he touched. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Janice Glaus Johnson. He is survived by his wife Bobbie of Fort Mill, SC; son, Darryl G. Johnson (Carol) of Charleston, SC; daughter, Robin J. Ivey of James Island, SC; two sisters, Rebecca S. Johnson and Julia J. Britton both of Charleston, SC; step-son, Karl F. Griffin; two step-daughters, Debbie Hiott and Maryann Blackmore (Mark); three grandchildren, Laura Ivey Castle (Rich), Stuart B. Parks (Meredith), and Nicholas A. Johnson, and six step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Wesley and Grace Castle; and sister-in-law, Shirley G. Lackey of Beaufort, SC. Memorials may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407 or Belair United Methodist Church, 8095 Shelley Mullis Rd., Fort Mill, SC 29707.
