Robert Grooms Obituary

GROOMS, Robert Robert Dale Chip Grooms, 66, of Cross, SC, a retired superintendent of operations for the Santee Cooper Cross Generating Station, died Friday at his residence. The funeral will be 2:00 PM Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 12, 2007, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. Interment will follow in Berkeley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Ste. 504, N. Charleston, SC 29406. Mr. Grooms was born Oct. 3, 1940, in Moncks Corner, SC, a son of Joseph Cullen Joe Grooms and Azalea Williams Grooms. He served in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War and retired from Santee Cooper after thirty- three and a half years of service. Mr. Grooms was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. Surviving are, his wife, Irene E. Caddin Grooms; a daughter, Theresa Ann Grooms Brownlee and her husband, Donald, of Dorchester; two sons, Jeffrey D. Grooms and Chris C. Grooms and his wife, Celia, all of Cross; three grandchildren, Crystal Ann Clark and Tristian Cullen Grooms both of Cross and David Wendell Brownlee of Dorchester; and several aunts and uncles.
