Robert Grimm Obituary

GRIMM, Robert WALTERBORO Chief Petty Officer Robert Merrill Grimm, Sr., United States Navy (Ret.) affectionately known by many as Bob , age 83, of 220 Gervais Street, Walterboro, died Monday morning, September 3, 2007, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Funeral services will be held 11 o'clock Friday morning, September 7, 2007, from North Walterboro Baptist Church, 2177 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro, with The Reverend Curtis Pettit officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort. CPO Grimm was born August 23, 1924, in Warren, Ohio and was a son of the late Cecil Grimm and the late Helen Frank Grimm Harrison. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy for twenty years having seen action aboard the USS Kittyhawk during World War II, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam Era, retiring with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He also worked for the federal government as a Fireman and Fire Prevention Inspector at Los Alamitos Air Force Base, California with twelve years of service. For the remainder of his professional career he worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA Space Division) in California where he worked as a Technical Fire Inspector having worked aboard the shuttle USS Discovery. He cherished his employment with NASA where he had many opportunities, working closely with the astronauts, and having been afforded the opportunity to work with President Ronald Reagan and her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, II. When moving to Walterboro, he became an active member of North Walterboro Baptist Church, when he was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. He loved his God as well as his fellow man, being remembered by many for his main hobby, going to church. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Walterboro Lodge, No. 1988 where he was a past Treasurer and the Loyal Order of Moose in Walterboro where he was a past Governor. Bob loved his family with all his heart and will be forever cherished for his devotion and dedication to his church and family. Surviving are: his wife of forty-three years, Mrs. Amelia Ritter Grimm; two sons, Robert M. Grimm, II of Walterboro, and Mark Tener and his wife Deborah of Long Beach, California; and two daughters, Karan Houston and her husband Paul of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Kim Manzanares and her husband Jessie of Marino Valley, California. There are twelve grandchildren, Tiffany Echervira and her husband Orlando of Lagrange, North Carolina, Elizabeth Tener and Christopher Tener both of Long Beach, California, Rebecca Knowles of Hesperia, California, Sarah Burt and her husband Jarrod of Country Canyon, California, Renae Crawford and her husband Phil of Springfield, Virginia, Jeremy Seeley of Anaheim, California, Emily Gould of Marino Valley, California, Robert M. Grimm, III of Walterboro, Tommy Houston and his wife Shonda, Joshua Houston, and David Houston all of Mansfield, California; and four great grandchildren, Ava Burt, Asher Burt, and Dameon Manzanares, and Trevor Knowles that also survive. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be directed in his memory to: North Walterboro Baptist Church, Post Office Box 905, Walterboro, SC 29488.
